Fitness operator, The Gym Group, has opened its new flagship venue in London’s Paddington.
Work has completed on a new c.22,000 sq ft facility on North Wharf Road in Paddington Basin, central London, which enhances the firm’s national portfolio of 215 high quality, low cost gyms.
The £1.9 million project was overseen by project manager and cost consultant, The Construction Consultants (TCC).
It involved the major strip out and conversion of an existing health club which forms part of the basement and lower basement floors of a 15-storey high-rise office building.
Works were carried out in 22 weeks over two separate phases.
The first phase saw the removal of more than 250 tonnes of concrete and 10 tonnes of steel sections from the old, raised spa and swimming pool area.
Fit out works were carried out in a second phase and included specialist modifications to the building’s M&E installations, with new smoke extract and sprinkler systems to suit the new layout and The Gym Group’s specification.
The project was delivered on budget and in collaboration with the building’s facilities management team.
It is the latest project that TCC has completed on behalf of the Gym Group following delivery of several projects nationwide, including a new 7,500 sq ft gym at Victoria Park in Beverley, North Yorkshire.
Alex Pimley, Co-founder and Director of TCC, said: “It was a pleasure to deliver such a challenging project for a longstanding client. The Gym Group is growing rapidly and so is its membership, with numbers up 10% in the first six months of 2022. The Group has a target of reaching 300 gyms by the end of 2025 and we’re looking forward to playing a significant role in helping it to meet it.”
